The Best Fall Events in Golden & Denver: October 2026 Guide
There is something about October in Colorado that is hard to beat. The mornings are crisp, the foothills start changing color, patios are still very much in play, and suddenly every weekend has something going on.
As a Golden local, mom, and Realtor, fall is one of my favorite times of year to get out and enjoy everything our area has to offer. Whether you're looking for something to do with the kids, a dog-friendly afternoon, a date night, or simply an excuse to spend a Saturday wandering around Golden, October 2026 has plenty happening.
Autumn Fest in Golden
October 3, 2026 | 10 AM–3 PM
Golden History Museum & Park
One of the best family-friendly fall events in Golden, Autumn Fest is back for its sixth year. This free community event at Golden History Museum & Park includes hands-on activities, crafts, big trucks, farm animals and plenty for younger kids to do. If you have little ones, this is an easy Saturday activity because you're already right in downtown Golden. Grab coffee beforehand, spend some time at the festival, and then walk over to Washington Avenue or along Clear Creek afterward. It's exactly the kind of low-key community event that makes fall in Golden so good.
Oktoberfest at The Golden Mill
October 4, 2026 | 12–3 PM
The Golden Mill | Downtown Golden
The Golden Mill's annual Oktoberfest returns for its sixth year on October 4. Located right along Clear Creek, The Golden Mill is already one of my favorite places to take out-of-town guests because you get food, drinks, mountain views and an easy walk into downtown Golden all in one stop.Add Oktoberfest to the mix and this makes for a very good fall Sunday in Golden.
Pumpkin Festival at Chatfield Farms
October 9–11, 2026 | 9 AM–4 PM
Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms | Littleton
If you're looking for the classic Colorado pumpkin-patch experience, put the Pumpkin Festival at Chatfield Farms on your calendar. The annual event runs October 9–11 and combines pumpkin picking with family-friendly fall activities at the beautiful Chatfield Farms property. And if you can't make Pumpkin Festival weekend, the Chatfield Farms Corn Maze runs Fridays through Sundays from September 18 through November 1. This is one of my favorite options for families because it feels like a real fall outing rather than simply stopping somewhere to buy a pumpkin.
Golden Hour MashUp: Ghouls' Night Out
October 14, 2026 | 6–9 PM
Throughout Downtown Golden
Golden's Golden Hour MashUp series gets a Halloween makeover for October with Ghouls' Night Out. Wear a costume…or at least something a little spooky…and wander through participating Golden businesses for special offers, live music and surprises throughout downtown. The event is free, and it's a great excuse to make an entire night out of downtown Golden: dinner, drinks, shopping and a little Halloween fun.
Glow at the Gardens
October 15–18 & October 21–24, 2026 | 5:30–9 PM
Denver Botanic Gardens | York Street
If you're willing to head into Denver, Glow at the Gardens is one of the coolest October events of the year. Denver Botanic Gardens transforms into an illuminated nighttime experience with real hand-carved pumpkins, larger-than-life pumpkin sculptures, performers and glowing landscapes throughout the gardens. It's festive without necessarily being scary, which makes it a good option for families as well as a fun fall date night. Advance tickets are a good idea because popular nights can fill up.
Stories Worth Telling Festival
October 16–18, 2026 | Golden
For something a little different, the Stories Worth Telling Festival returns to Golden October 16–18. The weekend celebrates storytelling through film and live performances and brings filmmakers, storytellers and audiences together right here in Golden. I love seeing events like this continue to grow because they're part of what makes Golden feel like much more than just a gateway to the mountains. We have a genuinely active arts, food and cultural community here too.
Mines Museum Spooktacular
October 17, 2026 | 2–5 PM
Mines Museum of Earth Science | Golden
Another great one for kids! The Mines Museum Spooktacular is a free, teal-pumpkin trick-or-treat event featuring STEM-themed activities, treats, prizes, face painting, costumes and spooky museum exhibits. If your kids love dinosaurs, rocks, science—or simply Halloween—this one is worth adding to the calendar.
Golden Beverage Tasting & Chili Cookoff
October 17, 2026 | Golden
One of Golden's longtime fall traditions returns in October with the “Knock Your Boots Off” Golden Beverage Tasting & Chili Cookoff…Expect chili, local beverages, food samples and live entertainment. This is the kind of event that feels very Golden: casual, outdoorsy, community-oriented and centered around good food and drinks.
Howl-o-ween at The Golden Mill
October 18, 2026 | 12–3 PM
The Golden Mill
Dog people, this one is for us. The Golden Mill's 5th Annual Howl-o-ween is a Halloween afternoon for dogs, families and kids, complete with costumes and live music. If your dog tolerates costumes better than mine, this is their moment. Even if you're just there to watch the parade of dressed-up Golden dogs while having lunch and a drink along Clear Creek, I consider that a very solid Sunday.
Ghosts in the Gardens
Select dates throughout October 2026
Denver Botanic Gardens | York Street
For something a little spookier, Denver Botanic Gardens is also hosting Ghosts in the Gardens on select October evenings, including October 9–10, October 20 and October 28–31. This is a fun alternative for adults and older kids who want something more atmospheric than a pumpkin patch but don't necessarily want a full haunted house.
Halloween Bash at The Golden Mill
October 30, 2026 | 5:30–8 PM
The Golden Mill
Halloween weekend officially kicks off Friday night at The Golden Mill with music, Halloween-themed drinks, costumes and prizes. If you're looking for something more adult-oriented after all the pumpkin patches and kids' activities earlier in the month, this would be an easy night out without leaving Golden.
Monster Mash in Golden
October 31, 2026 | 2–4 PM
Golden History Museum & Park + Downtown Golden
Halloween afternoon in Golden is especially cute for younger kids. The Golden Library, Golden History Museum & Park and Foothills Art Center are teaming up for a free, drop-in Monster Mash. Kids can wear their costumes and trick-or-treat between the three locations while stopping for crafts, activities and not-too-scary stories along the way. No registration is required, making this an easy Halloween-day activity before heading home for neighborhood trick-or-treating.
Don't Forget the Fall Colors
You don't necessarily need an organized event to have an incredible fall day around Golden. October is one of my favorite times to hike and explore the foothills. Grab coffee in downtown Golden and head toward North Table Mountain, Lookout Mountain, Windy Saddle or Clear Creek Canyon for a hike or walk before coming back downtown for lunch. The transition from Golden's tree-lined neighborhoods to the foothills is one of the reasons I love living here—and fall makes it particularly beautiful.
My Perfect October Day in Golden
If you don't want to plan around an event, here's a very simple formula: Coffee in downtown Golden → morning hike → lunch along Clear Creek → wander Washington Avenue → afternoon drink or early dinner → home before it gets cold. Honestly, sometimes the best Golden weekends are the ones without much of an itinerary.
Thinking About Living in Golden?
One of the things I love most about Golden is that it still feels like a real community. Yes, we have incredible access to Denver and the mountains, but it's the smaller things—the local events, trails you can hit before work, walking downtown for dinner, seeing familiar faces and having something happening almost every weekend—that make living here special. If you're considering a move to Golden, Applewood, Wheat Ridge, Lakewood or the west Denver suburbs, I'm always happy to talk neighborhoods, homes and what it's actually like to live here.
